Costumes (teaser)

Some sketches from the development of the as of yet unannounced possibly not
going to actually happen show. I'd like for it to happen though. Knock on wood.

On a bright note. Since my incredibly depressing second to last post I have
acquired three shows for which I will be coordinating props. Feast or Famine.
I can hardly bear it. I also applied for a position with Bloomingdale's as an
associate visual merchandiser; that is the one we hope goes through.
Still, it is nice to be employed again.

25 February 2011

Its been a minute....I know.

I was unemployed for so long (2 and a half months)
and then suddenly I have three jobs, all wanting
my time. I'm doing a properties scavenger hunt for
Benefactors which opens way too soon at Theatre Row.
I'm scheduled to do some scenic painting at the York
Theatre soon, though what I have no idea.
And perhaps best of all, I am in concept design stage
for what looks to be a fantastic, demanding, arduous
and breathtaking spectacle whose name I cannot release
yet. I very much want to take a home office pic and
post it but I'm certain that is a no no. For now.
I will say that is loaded with fur and sequins and
there is hardly a straight bit of tailoring save for
a tuxedo. That is until I figure out how to adapt it
to our needs. Mink crinoline anyone?

Some things that have been on my mind recently:

1. What are you?
I get asked this constantly, and usually in a seeming
non-threatening way. However, asking this question to a
person of mixed heritage usually makes us feel like you
are asking us to qualify ourselves. I am a person first
and foremost leave it at that.

2. Theory and Practice:
To truly excel at art, just like sports or law, you
have to work at it tirelessly and daily. Talent may be
something we are born with but it requires upkeep or it
becomes stagnant and rots a little. A few of my friends
are having this issue having taken jobs out of school that
don't really call for drawing or painting capabilities, just
long hours that leave them unable to make any work due to
exhaustion or apathy (her word, not mine.)

3. The end of an era:
What a sad end to the tenure of John Galliano.

4. Asshole Magnet:
That would be me, Ladies and Gentlemen. I managed to
fall for the fleecy exterior of yet another wolf in sheeps
clothing. I believe the deciding factor was on the third date
when he tells me, after I voice a few concerns of mine that he
might be a player and how I don't need that,
"It will sound arrogant, but I've been avoiding calls from
a twenty-one year old boy tonight. I've been ignoring him
to be with you." Am I missing something? Was this meant to
somehow reassuring or complimentary? Where HAVE all the good
men gone? I need some gaurds, all my friends are too busy
with decent relationships to make sure I don't fall in the well.

Some pictures:

Atop some two by fours rests an enormous oval miracle.

I'm not going to type anything
for fear of jinxing myself.

But this could be huge.

Potentially life changing huge.

Between a rock & a hard place...

...have pen and paper handy.

Out of my present adversity a
new creative vein has opened.
Is it fueled by stress?
Perhaps uncertainty?
All I know is that something
opened up and I can suddenly
draw again in a way I think
is decent. It's not quite
polished yet, but if I can
keep it going I can get it there.

It also heralds the return of
giant sewing needles. Odd.

La Moustache

Someone in the Cit has been going around writing moustache
on adverts and movie posters in a lovely curling script.
I became inspired and added a moustache to a drawing.

That is all the drawing I've done.

Let's Get Lifted.

So yesterday I had the fortune of helping
carry a truckload of film equipment up to
third floor of an old school in the
East Village (Read, long flights of steps
between landings and no lift to speak of.)
I sincerely thought I would faint.
Lets not talk of how it lasted 4 hours.

Why am I doing this you ask?

In order to get a head in the door
for possible future work in film production
in the future. Will it work? It may kill me first.

The web page however is starting to work.
So far two requests for sold work and a commission have appeared.
The start of which is included in the photo train below.

Also thinking about getting more into photos...

speaking of photos:

The most amazing thing I saw at the Capsule Show.
This hooded jacket by Remi Relief out of Japan,
I hesitate to call it a hoodie because of it's awesomeness,
is made of soft indigo cotton knit with actual knit denim
detailing along the front bottom and hood.
God is in the details.

BarNine on 9th avenue & 53rd
My Monday night dive bar cravings are now satiated.
Also some quite nice acoustic and electric guitar
sets included in the weekly impromptu jam sessions.

Dinner last week at Le Cercle Rouge in Tribeca.
Amazing Steak Tartare, despite the tiny quails egg I was given.
